Where the Society begins, mostly because it is where I already was.
The account
The first expedition was not planned so much as noticed. I had gone out for something else entirely and came back with a frog, a notebook full of pond margins, and the beginnings of a filing system I have since come to regret.
London rewards the patient and punishes the hurried, which is true of most places but is truer here. I catalogued one specimen properly and three improperly, and have destroyed the evidence of the latter.
