What the Society noted

Sprout

The original — Steiff have made teddies since 1880, and the brass button in the left ear is the oldest honest mark in the trade. At 18cm with jointed limbs, Fynn is a first teddy meant to be kept, and the button proves it is the real one.

Wonders of the real world

The real teddy bear

In 1902 Theodore Roosevelt refused to shoot a tied-up bear.

Richard Steiff's Bear 55 PB was 55 centimetres high.

An American dealer ordered 3,000 Steiff bears in one go.
