What the Society noted

Sprout

Floppy, beanbag-soft and only eight inches — the size a small hand closes right around. Under-fives take to these before they can name them; a gentle first fox, light enough to be carried everywhere and dropped without harm.

Wonders of the real world

The real red fox

A red fox can hear mice squeaking about 100 metres away.

Red foxes first moved into British cities in the 1930s.

A vixen, a female fox, makes a spine-chilling scream.
