What the Society noted

The Explorer

Palm-sized and built to clip to a zip — field kit, not shelf display, the sort that comes on the expedition and home again scuffed. Priced to be given away and still missed, which is the life it is for.

Wonders of the real world

The real sea otter

Sea otters may wrap themselves in kelp so they do not drift out to sea.

A sea otter's fur is the densest of any animal.

The fur trade killed about one million sea otters.
