What the Society noted

Sprout

German-made, lifetime-safe for under-threes, with the fluffy russet tail a child reaches for first. The reassuring pick when the toy is for a baby — soft all over, well finished, and made to be chewed as much as cuddled.

Wonders of the real world

The real red fox

A red fox can hear mice squeaking about 100 metres away.

Red foxes first moved into British cities in the 1930s.

A vixen, a female fox, makes a spine-chilling scream.
